Try A Little Tenderness

Blame it on the moon.

I was tired of waiting… for sleep, approvals, love, money and apparently, I had insomnia. Otis Redding was playing in the background, asking to “Try A Little Tenderness”, Kirkland’s “Love letters of great men” was laying on the ground and that was the start of my Monday morning Buzzfeed journey.

Where is the love language of the ’60s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s? What happened in the early 2000s? How come Marvin doesn’t know “I’ll be there to relieve him” and how come all of you already know “How can you mend a broken heart”?

So I started googling for answers and I came across a website called “5lovelanguages.com”… I took a quiz. It turns out that the affirmation of my love language is “Actions don’t always speak louder than words”. According to American writer Chapman, the five ways to express and experience love called “love languages” are:

  • words of affirmation,
  • quality time,
  • receiving gifts,
  • acts of service,
  • physical touch.

So I was in the words of affirmation and the physical touch section. As I live my life, there is always music in the background and as words sometimes are louder for me, #Icouldnthelpbutwonder, why did people stop talking about love the way Marvin, Otis, Al Green, The Isley brothers did? Do we love and feel differently? Where are all those people who used to dress up for a date night, spend hours trying to find the perfect words to express their feelings?

The book “Love Letters of great men” had 2 volumes featuring leading male historical figures with 200 pages. How many volumes would it take us to write the words “See ya”, “Wassap”, “Come over”, “I need space” and finally “I Love You”.
